Friendship. I can not think of a single person on this earth that does not need a friend! A best friend loves you when you’re a hot mess, when you’re so low you can dangle your feet off a dime, when you’re thirty minutes late for lunch or when you’re throwing the biggest, baddest pity party for yourself! These are your besties for life and most of us can count them on one hand! Encyclopedia Brittanica defines friendship as this:
“friendship, a state of enduring affection, esteem, intimacy, and trust between two people. In all cultures, friendships are important relationships throughout a person’s life span. … It is a dyadic relationship, meaning that it involves a series of interactions between two individuals known to each other.”
But things happen, you move away or life takes you in different directions so you’re not able to spend time together! So who can fill that void? Who can you talk to at 3am when your world comes crashing in? Who can comfort you, encourage you and bring you peace?
Today I had a revelation! My bestie and forever friend is Jesus! Ok I see the eyes rolling 🙄 as you hear the old hymn in your head “What a friend we have in Jesus” but I want us to take a fresh look at this!
I grew up in a denomination that taught a deep reverence and even fear of God. Prayers were formal and often repetitive. Having a casual conversation with the Lord was never talked about or encouraged! Thankfully things have changed a bit in the church but I’m not sure we talk about God/Jesus/Holy Spirit as our friend, someone we can converse with at any time and many times during the day, someone we can be completely honest and real with even when angry, disappointed or feeling hopeless!
But there’s THIS!
John 15:15-16 TPT
“I have never called you ‘servants,’ because a master doesn’t confide in his servants, and servants don’t always understand what the master is doing. But I call you my most intimate and cherished friends, for I reveal to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father. You didn’t choose me, but I’ve chosen and commissioned you to go into the world to bear fruit. And your fruit will last, because whatever you ask of my Father, for my sake, he will give it to you!”
Did you get all those gold nuggets of Truth in those two verses!! Jesus, our Savior, Redeemer, Healer and Prince of Peace calls US His most intimate and cherished FRIENDS! HE tells us everything He’s heard from the Father! HE Chose ME and YOU to be His besties for life and eternity and He’s chosen us to go and bear fruit that will last! And the heavenly icing on the cake is THIS!
“Whatever you ask of my Father, for my sake, He will give it to you!”
Wow Wow Wow! Somehow a lot of believers have missed this! HE wants to be your most intimate friend! He loves us when we’re a hot mess, are so down in the dumps, are having a huge pitiful pity party or we’ve even neglected Him! I think that trumps any human friend we could ever have!
So what are you waiting for? Our best of the best friend is longing to hang with YOU! He’s completely wild about you, has all the answers you will ever need and will even throw in large doses of healing, peace, grace, mercy, joy and more LOVE than you can contain!
